Z is for...

Z is for zigzag (loved this triangle-free zigzag pattern), zebras (the pieced back has tiny zebra fabric), and Zach (the recipient of this quilt)!

I painstakingly pieced 9 different scraps of batting together for this quilt - I hope it holds up! I did some extra quilting to be sure. You can see how much greener it is here than when I started this quilt three weeks ago by clicking back to the first photo!

I've also been working on two of the Spring Fling Round Robin quilts. This is a very doctored version of the one I'm sending off today (we're keeping things very secret).

Great Graffiti

On the way back from my conference, while knitting on the train with my friend, I spotted this little bit of graffiti as we prepared to change trains in Tampere!

Here is a link to the artist. And here are some other links to similar artists/projects worldwide! Needless to say, I've spent far too much time online today!

I did finish up one pair of socks during some rather dry plenary sessions (and on the train) - another pair of Thujas using yarn my aunt sent me last month. This is pair number 6 of our 9 in 2oo9 challenge! I also picked up some maize yarn and a new magazine along the way. Now back to the sewing machine!

Z is for Zigzag

I thought I'd have more time to sew and post in May, but it hasn't happened yet. I have been sneaking in a little sewing time, though, and here is the result thus far! I'm hoping to piece the back for this, as well, but I'm tempted just to use a plain back so I can move on to more projects! I have decided how to set the remaining Q4L blocks, so I'm anxious to start that.

I'm off to a conference for a few days, and hopefully there will be lots of knitting time on the train and maybe during the plenary sessions, as well!

Donau so blau, so blau!

Blue seems to be the color of the day, but I'm not feeling particularly blue.

I took a few steps towards starting a new baby quilt and did some more knitting. The quilt will be made using this great triangle-free zigzag pattern; the socks are Thujas and the scarf is this super quick gathered pattern for the scarves Ruth is collecting for charity.

Here's a photo 2,544.8 kilometers from the mouth of the Danube (Donau) (taken near Gundelfingen, Germany at Eastertime). I should unearth some photos taken at the mouth in Romania one of these days!

A Little Knitting Update

With the wedding quilt and the Q4L quilt, I've been finding more time for sewing recently than I have in months, but the knitting affair continues. I am particularly smitten with this yarn (a generous gift from a friend) and the no-purl modification of Cookie's Monkey socks (as found on Ravelry).

This will be pair number 5 for the 9 in 2oo9 challenge I'm doing with my neighbor! A few other knitting finishes from the past few months (more details in Ravelry, if you're interested):

Q4L Finish Number One

FINALLY I've finished the first of two quilts for Clare's Quilts 4 Leukemia project! This one is headed off to a little girl in Georgia, USA after the holiday weekend.

The blocks were made by Carol, MN, USA; Susan, UAE; Michelle, OK, USA; Kathy, FL, USA; Lily, Australia; Nancy, IN, USA; Susan, USA; Irene, UK; Heather, KS, USA; and me. Sorry, I don't have links for everyone. This was a lot of fun to work on and I'm looking forward to finishing up the second one sooner rather than later!

My inspiration for the 'sashing' came from this quilt.
