I'm feeling so overwhelmed by all the projects I could start - it's almost paralyzing! I debated starting out with a small project, but in the end decided to dive back into a UFO. I started these bear paws for one of a pair of twin blue and plaid quilts for my little brother in the summer of 2005. My plan includes sashing and three borders - so unusual for me!
Here are a few more photos from last week's travels with my mom. The first is Häme Castle in Hämeenlinna between Helsinki and Tampere. The next one is the wooden church in Kristinastad, followed by the little wooden carriage huts around the church in Narpes. The last is a mini princess cake in the shape of a monster from my local bakery (I became a big fan of these cakes at my host family's birthday parties as a student in Stockholm ten years ago and my mom even made one for my birthday once and also ordered one from here another year).

Ilove the plaids...I have a tree quilt from West Virginia done in similar fabrics that I've been sorely tempted to reproduce.
UFO's can be intimitating - hang in there!

Love those plaid bearpaws!!! :) I'm definitely going to make a plaid bearpaw for me one of these days! :D I adore plaids...so funny because as a child I wouldn't wear anything that was plaid. :) Such beautiful country, and those carriage huts are wonderful!
Beutifull plaids ... I have so much old flannel-shirts from my husband to make such a warm quilt ... well ... sometimes ... smile
Your quilt blocks are just lovely, and so are the pictures of your travels. The architecture is stunning!

Excellent choice -- I have never met a plaid I didn't like *s*
The countryside where you are is just beautiful -- you must have had such an enjoyable time sharing it with your mom.
I like your bear paws. I'm still intimadated working with plaids. Maybe somday . . . Finland is a beautiful country. Thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures. That monster cake is adorable. What flavor is he?
your bear paws look very comfy -- I don't think I've ever owned a piece of plaid fabric, but I really like the colors of yours. and have fun with that monster... better eat the head first!
Handsome bear paws! The plaids look so masculine and comfy.
Lovely pics of the buildings. I'm glad to hear you had fun with your Mom.
And how cool it must have been to empty your mom's suitcase of fabric for you! Looking forward to seeing (as works in progress) what else was in there.
I like seeing traditional patterns done with a contemporary flair. The scrappy plaids add so much color and pattern to this. I really like it. I agree on the choices being overwhelming. I have a list I'm working from right now and I'm trying to stay focused.
I adore that cake! Have fun with your sashing and borders!
Love the monster cake! Tell us about it. (Type of cake/filling/what is the green stuff/etc.)
Love the quilt - the light blue background is a good choice. Great photos too. Hope you are not too cold
I'm echoing all the other comments. The bear paws look great. You could always finish it and send it to me instead of your brother. That way it would feel like a new project instead of a UFO. Right?? haha. The scenery and architecture pictures are awesome. Then i just laughed to see the funny monster cake after those glorious scenery photos.
Had to check out your blog after you posted on mine. I love the plaid bear claw. The plaids you picked look so fresh. And the blue is wonderful. I had to add it's piture to my quilt photo album. What a treat to look at your blog for the first time and it opened up to those bright cheery blocks.
Ohh, I like the blue plaid paws too, they're cute! Are you still going to add sashing and three borders or are you changing your mind?
And the froggie cake is adorable! Don't know if I'd want to eat his tongue though! lol
nice quilt. Bears Paw is one block i have not tried yet. Perhaps i will have to make one out of scraps some time.
Oh, that red church is wonderful!
