Just a quick Wednesday update on two projects:
I've finished twenty-four of the forty-eight red and yellow string blocks.
I'm making these using this easy technique:
1. Make two square blocks with diagonal strips. (I foundation pieced them on muslin.) Place them right sides together with the strips from each square going in the opposite direction.
2. Draw a line across the diagonal and stitch 1/4" on each side of this line.
3. Cut on the line you drew. Open and iron. Voila!
Recent ferry rides have also helped with my 'Red Hots' progress. I'm hoping upcoming train journeys will lead to even more progress on this front. Still not sure what these are destined to become, but I'm having fun making them anyway!

This is so pretty, light, and fresh! I've done a lot of stringing, but never thought about putting them face to face, but opposite ways. How clever this is! Thanks for the photo and instructions.
Thanks for the tutorial on your strippy blocks--what a great way to use small scraps!
love the strippy blocks! Funny how that small red floral reads so purple in the overview photo!
The hexagons are a beauty, pink is not my color still I like these a lot.
beautiful wips! love them both.
Oh you clever girl you. Must try that (but not yet!). I do love Red Hots.
I love the string blocks you're making, and the colours are just great!

Neat, I like both of those. The first one is very clever...
& who doesn't like red hots...
Great idea for the strippy quilt - and I love the red and yellow combo.
Those red hots are looking great!
Loving your string quilt blogs Jen. Also the hexagons. I have had a few nudges lately to get my hexagons out again...
Love the colors of the redhots -- they are so pretty!
Awesome. Both WIPs.
I think this is the most beautiful of all the string quilts I've seen on the web lately--what a great combination of reds and yellows. Cheerful, not too sweet.
Wonderful.
They both look great - I've seen blocks set that way before but hadn't tried to figure out how they were constructed.
If you don't mind, I'll put a link on the HeartStrings website to you're blog.
I've got a bunch of pink hexagon flowers too that I need to get sewn into a quilt!
love the string blocks and the red hots are fabulous!
Thank You for the tutorial. I really want to try it.
This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing!!
