Last week I showed off my first attempt at making hexagons and said that I was making something little (and top-secret) with them. The resulting turtle has since arrived at its new home in Germany, so I can share a picture now. I'm not sure I have a future in making small animals, but this was fun to make for a friend. Click was much easier with her straight seams! I don't know if the turtle is a boy or a girl - guess it's up to his/her new roommate to decide/discover!As for the other hexagons, I have no plan for them. They're a little small for a full-sized quilt - I might move up to 3cm hexagons for something like this cool quilt Jenny blogged about. They're larger than the ones required for Nadine's tote, but maybe I can adapt that pattern for slightly larger hexagons. No hurry to decide, though!
Haven't done any sewing all week - it's that end of the semester craziness, plus all the Christmas events going on! Hope to work a little on the medallion this weekend. (It definitely needs a better name!)

WOW, the hex became a turtle. I would not have guessed that. And he/she is SO cute. Have never seen hex used this way.

What a clever idea for the hexagons. The Japanese are really big on hexagons traditionally I think. I have several books of Japanese quilts, all full of them. Beautiful.
I've actually decided it's a girl and I named her Suvi. She was born in Finland so I think she should have a name that reflects her past ;) She is a bit upset right now looking at the picture where she had to lie on her back but other than that she's doing great in her new home :)
I think you can use the bigger hexagons in a bag - just use less of them or make the bag bigger...

Cute little turtle. Smart idea. It is getting a bit busy isn't it? Well I am not actually busy, but my head is busy worrying about all the things I should be doing! I have bought one Christmas present only, have no idea where I am going for Christmas Day, or what I need to bring.
You are so clever. I would never have thought of making a turtle of these - but they make a perfect shell! How about a frog with a hexagon lily pad? Or an elephant with hexagon ears? Ok - now I know I'm getting silly!
